Course Overview

8 Alpha Environmental provides state-approved asbestos training courses in Alabama for both Asbestos Workers and Supervisors. These courses are designed to meet federal and state regulatory requirements and prepare participants to perform or oversee asbestos-related activities safely and in compliance with EPA, OSHA, and ADEM regulations.

Both courses include a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and final examinations. Successful completion is required to apply for state licensure through the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).

Asbestos Worker Initial Training

Duration: 32 Hours (4 Days)

Designed For: Individuals who will be directly involved in the disturbance, removal, encapsulation, or disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

Topics Covered:

  • Health effects of asbestos exposure

  • Federal and Alabama-specific regulations (EPA, OSHA, ADEM)

  • Safe work practices and abatement procedures

  • PPE and respiratory protection

  • Decontamination procedures

  • Waste handling and disposal

  • Emergency procedures and containment

  • Hands-on training with real-world scenarios

Course Completion: Requires full attendance and passing a final exam. Certificate is valid for one year; annual refresher required.

Asbestos Supervisor Initial Training

Duration: 40 Hours (5 Days)

Designed For: Individuals who will supervise asbestos abatement projects, ensuring compliance and overseeing worker safety.

Topics Covered:

  • All Asbestos Worker content, plus:

  • Supervisor responsibilities and legal obligations

  • Project management and regulatory compliance

  • Monitoring worker safety and site conditions

  • Preparing abatement plans and documentation

  • Air monitoring, clearance testing, and reporting

  • Leadership and communication in abatement operations

Course Completion: Requires full attendance and passing a written exam. Certificate is valid for one year; annual 8-hour refresher required.

Refresher Courses

  • Asbestos Worker Refresher: 8 Hours (Annually)

  • Asbestos Supervisor Refresher: 8 Hours (Annually)
    Both refresher courses review core concepts, regulatory updates, and changes in industry best practices. Required annually to maintain ADEM certification.
