


HAZWOPER for Emergency Response Operations
This training applies to workers who are specifically involved in emergency response operations involving hazardous materials or chemicals. It is intended for employees who may be required to act as part of an emergency response team, including first responders, spill containment personnel, and hazardous materials handlers.
Types of Emergency Response Training:
First Responder Operations Level:
Duration: 8 hours.
Requirements: This level of training is for workers who will respond to hazardous materials emergencies but will not actively try to stop the release. It focuses on recognizing the hazard and calling for proper assistance.
First Responder Technician Level:
Duration: 24 hours.
Requirements: This level applies to workers who are expected to take direct action to contain or stop hazardous materials releases (such as managing a spill).
Hazardous Materials Specialist and Incident Commander:
Duration: Additional specialized training beyond the Technician Level, often requiring 40 hours or more.
Requirements: These individuals will play a leadership or highly technical role in managing a hazardous materials emergency.
